Mazda MX-5 (1998-2000) Review

Category: Convertibles 3.5 out of 5

Summary of the Mazda MX-5 (1998-2000)

Price Range: £15,000 to £19,695

Assets

Sweet engines, flick-switch gearchange, best-in-class handling, good value and cheap to run.

Drawbacks

Slightly contrived styling, 1.6 a bit tardy.

Verdict

Still one of the best, despite its age.

Mazda MX-5 Review

Overview3.5 out of 5

There is a wide choice of cars available in the roadster market, and it was the Mazda MX-5 which rekindled interest in wind-in-the-hair motoring a decade ago. It has defined the small affordable roadster since, but competition has caught up somewhat over the years. Because of this, there is an updated model due next spring. But the current model has become classic in its own lifetime, its handling is as good as ever and it's a practical buy, too.
