Fine drive, rear sliding doors, improved 2.0-litre petrol engine.
Not a true seven-seater, traditional MPV looks, S-Max has better ride handling compromise.
Mid-life tweaks improve what already is a very impressive MPV.

Good news for facelifted 5 buyers: UK cars have been tweaked to deliver lower CO2 emissions - reduced on average by 8g-11g/km. That means three out of the four drop a tax bracket, which is significant for company car buyers.
Unsurprisingly, the thirstiest car in the range is the automatic 2.0-litre petrol that returns 34.0mpg, some 1.8mpg less than the same engine when mated with the manual transmission.
The 1.8-litre, meanwhile, returns a respectable 37.2mpg, fine for its class but still along way from the theoretical average you'll return in the diesels, both of which return a fine 46.3mpg.
