Category: Superminis
Price Range: £9,295 to £13,845
Spaciousness, practicality, good engines, low running costs.
Patchy interior finish, not as dynamic a drive as Mazda would like you to believe.
Practical car and worthwhile all-rounder, but brings nothing new to the supermini party; and certainly not the essence of zoom.

Mazda isn't chasing high volumes or fleet sales, so most purchases are be to private buyers or user-chooser company drivers, and that should help retain residual values as there isn't be a pile of ex-fleet or hire cars on the used market.
Servicing should be fairly straightforward, with the 2 sharing so many parts with a Ford, but we wouldn't be surprised if Mazda servicing costs were comparatively slightly higher.
Don't expect to see too many Mazda2s around on the used car forecourts for some time, if ever. Sales volumes will only be around 5000 units per year in a full year, with Mazda wisely refusing to chase fleet sales, car-hire companies and the courtesy-car market. This should mean that most 2s are well looked after by their private buyers, and also ensures that residual (resale) values are upheld. It should make quite a good buy as a two- or three-year-old. Compared to most other rivals, the 2 is competitively priced and well specced.
