Mazda 2 (2003-2007) Review

Category: Superminis 3.5 out of 5

Summary of the Mazda 2 (2003-2007)

Price Range: £9,295 to £13,845

Assets

Spaciousness, practicality, good engines, low running costs.

Drawbacks

Patchy interior finish, not as dynamic a drive as Mazda would like you to believe.

Verdict

Practical car and worthwhile all-rounder, but brings nothing new to the supermini party; and certainly not the essence of zoom.

Mazda Mazda2 Review

Reliability and Quality3 out of 5

The 2 has a reasonably styled interior which is let down slightly by the quality of the plastics. The doors and dashboard feature too much hard plastic: the glovebox drops open onto your knees without a hint of damping, and even the coin-trays and oddments storage areas lack rubberised plastics to stop things rattling around.

Japanese-built Mazdas have proved supremely reliable over the years, and there's a risk that the record might not be quite so polished given the Ford underpinnings and assembly.
