Renault Avantime (2002-2004) Review

Category: Large MPV 3.5 out of 5

Summary of the Renault Avantime (2002-2004)

Price Range: No data available

Assets

Dramatically showy styling, cabin ambience, the view out, cruising ability.

Drawbacks

Too showy for some, feels bulky, lack of rear seat legroom, difficult to drive smoothly as a manual, doors can be cumbersome.

Verdict

Strange and slightly flawed, but if you want something rare, pricey and different, this is it.

Review

Reliability and Quality3 out of 5

Renaults are reasonably reliable but suffer some fit and finish problems, and indeed, the Avantime's arrival has been delayed by the need for quality improvements. The fit and finish of the exterior panels and interior fittings are very good, but in use it doesn't quite feel like the substantial precision assembly that the best German cars do. Inside, we counted no fewer than six plastic textures in the facia region - a reflection of the cabin's slightly uncoordinated look - but overall, this is a well trimmed and finished car, especially if ordered with a leather interior.
