Review

Overview2.5 out of 5

Launched in 1999, Mazda's Scenic-rivalling Premacy has never made a big sales impact in the UK. However, Mazda's UK importer came under direct factory control in the autumn of 2001, a new Mazda image has since been cooked up, and this revised Premacy attempts to justify it. Launched late in 2001, a 129bhp 2.0-litre engine option adds pace to higher-spec versions, and there's also a Sport model with an aggressive bodykit. All revised versions of the five-seater-only Premacy get new lights and bumpers, a modified front grille, new interior finishes and claimed improvements to noise levels, handling and ride comfort. The base engine is a 99bhp 1.8, and there's also a 99bhp direct-injection (but not common-rail) turbodiesel. Trim levels are GXi, GSi plus the Sport version.
