Review

Running Costs2.5 out of 5

Fiat dealerships aren't the cheapest, and fuel economy from the petrol engines is only average. The long-term running costs of the diesels are good, though - they don't lose value as quickly as the others. The estate is better from that point of view, too, as the saloon drops value fast. Despite distinctive styling, generous equipment and good performance, the Marea suffers from sizeable depreciation. There are a lot around at Fiat dealers and used-car supermarkets, and only the diesel and estate versions prove truly popular as used buys. The high-performance 20V models drop in value very steeply. Four stars for the bigger TD estates, as family diesel driving doesn't get any more fun than this. The Marea would score higher if the warranty was longer, and the residual values better. There's discounted stock about, so shop around - and enjoy.
