Latest chassis revisions make a much better Vectra, but it still lacks the Mondeo's pizzazz.

The Vectra now determines when it requires servicing itself, as pioneered by BMW, an arrangement that should reduce the number of trips to the garage. Given its popularity with fleets, servicing, repair and insurance costs are very competitive, but the car is less impressive when it comes to emissions output, which puts some models, notably the 1.8, at a significant disadvantage in terms of company car tax liability. Unsurprisingly, the least tax-friendly Vectra is the hottest, turbocharged V6 VXR, which pumps out 247g/km.
The prices are competitive - both for the car itself and some of its options - but don't expect a real bargain, given the relatively basic spec of the bog-standard variants and the fact that once you start stacking up the specification and options, it begins to look quite dear for a Vauxhall. The VXR model, though, does offer a lot of performance for the money.
