Quiet, smooth engines, good interior design and materials.
Not dynamically the best, quality and reliability concerns, short service intervals for 130bhp diesel.
Average car in a competitive class - good at most things, but outstanding at none.

One of the Laguna's strong points is its comfort level.
It's a quiet car with an opulent interior feel: seats are large and multi-adjustable; the steering wheel adjusts for reach and rake; and it seems Renault has made comfort one of its top priorities.
Road, wind and engine noise are all well suppressed, while a pliant ride and drivetrain that operates smoothly give the Laguna a more high-class feel than some rivals.
Starting at less than £16,000, it comes well equipped, too, the entry-level 2.0 Expression getting six-speaker CD player, keyless entry, trip computer, alloy wheels, automatic headlamps and wipers, cruise control, electric windows all round and air-conditioning.
A full complement of luxury features becomes available further up the range. Tyre pressure monitoring, xenon headlamps, leather trim, Bluetooth, satellite navigation and the like are all offered: not too many cars in this class can be as comprehensively specified.
