Review

Safety and Security4 out of 5

The Primera scored a respectable four stars in the Euro NCAP crash tests, though five stars is increasingly the standard in this sector (set by the Renault Laguna). However, curtain airbags are standard, along with the usual twin front and side bags, and Nissan claims that "the dramatic curve of the roofline ensures the (curtain) bags are in the optimum position should the worst happen". The seatbelts have pre-tensioners with load-limiters, and the active head restraints help protect against whiplash; essentials such as ABS (with EBD and Brake Assist) are standard and the T-spec has additional ESP (electronic stability programme). Security kit includes an alarm with remote central locking on all models, to Thatcham Category 1 standards in T-spec versions.
