Great looks, loads of kit, seven-seat practicality, feels tough enough for anything.
Suspension struggles to iron out poor road surfaces, engine sounds cruder than it is.
A go-anywhere, do-anything tough nut along the lines of the Mitsubishi Shogun and Toyota Land Cruiser. Just don't go expecting a Land Rover Discovery.

All Pathfinders get ESP+ traction and stability control integrated with the All Mode 4x4 system, designed to make sure the power is where you need it and not where you don't. Hill Descent Control and Hill Start are there to help out further off road. All models also get ABS anti-lock braking, with Brake Assist to help out in an emergency and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution to make for smoother stops.
There is an excellent standard of passive safety, with driver, passenger, side and curtain airbags fitted as standard, along with active front-seat head restraints. All seven seats are fitted with three-point seatbelts, and there are Isofix child seat anchoring points. In Euro NCAP crash tests, the Pathfinder scored four stars for occupant safety, three for child safety and two for pedestrian protection - better than many big 4x4s, but still leaving room for improvement.
An alarm and immobiliser are fitted as standard.
