Extremely broad range of on- and off-road capabilities, good on-road refinement, growly-sounding and strong-performing petrol engines, fantastic TDV8 diesel, good interior ambience and an extremely comfortable interior.
A little heavier than most rivals, and thirstier than some; really needs Dynamic Response to adequately contain body movements on demanding roads.
One of the most broadly capable cars on the planet. Its off-road capability probably, though understandably, compromises its on-road agility a little, but its depth of ability pretty much justifies its weight.

This is the car that BMW, former owner of Land Rover, would never have built - a Range Rover to compete head on with its own X5. A Range Rover that considers road-going sporty dynamics first, and off-road capability, not so much second, but, well, joint first, we suppose.
To achieve some pretty demanding goals, Land Rover took the underpinnings of the Discovery 3 - the Integrated Body-Frame concept (combining the strength of a ladder chassis with the rigidity of unitary construction, albeit slightly heavier than either), its air-suspension and the terrain response system, and used them to create the Range Rover Sport. Into the chassis it has dropped TDV6, TDV8, 4.4-litre V8 and 4.2 Supercharged engines, promising customers excellent on-road performance as well as the sort of off-road ability one expects from a Land Rover product. Question is: can you have your cake and eat it?
