Off-road ability, roomy interior, economical powertrain, good looks.
Expensive, interior feeling dated, not the sportiest on-road drive.
This Freelander offers useful fuel savings if driven correctly; it's an SUV that still makes sense.

The Land Rover Freelander 2 offers plenty of headroom and loads of space for back-seat passengers. It's wide and long, and with the rear seats folded there's a big, flat load-bay: you could downsize from a Discovery and not feel too hard done-by.
The Freelander rides well over poorly-surfaced roads and rough tracks - despite the TD4_e's low rolling-resistance tyres - though of course, the larger wheel/tyre options (up to 19") will give a firmer experience.
There are a series of equipment levels to choose from; entry S versions do without the Terrain Response system and automatic air conditioning, but do have all the basics. XS spec is popular, with front and rear parking sensors and electrically-adjustable front seats, and SE models have sat nav with colour touch-screen controls, glass roof panels, heated front seats and a six-CD autochanger. HSE models have part-leather upholstery and 14-speaker Dolby ProLogic sound system.
