Lots of standard equipment, easy to drive and compact.
A bit too compact - it feels cramped inside.
Good value, but long in the tooth.

The Cherokee offers competitive service and maintenance costs, especially compared with a V8 Land Rover Discovery. However, fuel is the biggest single cost, especially in petrol-engined models; the turbodiesel makes a decent stab at 30mpg. Resale values have slipped recently, but demand remains strong for used examples. The Cherokee might be looking a little dated now, but it's excellent value and continues to be in demand. Depreciation is average for a popular 4x4, but the Cherokee always manages to attract a lot of interest on the used market. The Orvis and the 4.0-litre Limited with leather are the best-selling petrol models, and all the diesels are in demand. From the 2.5 Sport model upwards there's a pretty comprehensive level of safety, security and electrical fittings, while Limited models add air-conditioning and cruise control. The icing on the cake is Jeep's excellent three-year warranty. Shame the vehicle looks so dated now.
