Category: Large Family
Price Range: £21,558 to £32,080
Good value, well-equipped, capable cruiser, pleasant auto box, economical, low emissions.
Stodgy on cornering, too softly sprung on bumpier roads, cabin feels old-fashioned, poor residuals.
Sometimes it does feel like and old man's car, but you get plenty of kit for your money. German rivals are better to drive.

The X-Type isn't going to be much of an investment.
Used value experts reckon that you'll get between 33 and 45% of the original value in three years/30,000 miles. The SE will return about 41% but that doesn't seem particularly good when you consider that a BMW 320SE will achieve 51% of the original value after three years of ownership.
