Comfortable, refined, quick.
High running costs, not wonderfully exciting to drive or look at.
Not as good as main rivals, but still a decent car.

The Infiniti G37's road-holding abilities fall short of its main rival, the BMW 330i. There's no shame in that, since Infiniti would have had to come up with something near-perfect to outshine the Germans.
However, it does have a trump card - it's quicker than the 330i. That may sound simplistic but you can't ignore the overwhelming grunt offered by the 3.7-litre lump that never fails to excite and amuse. The engine is the star: it produces a monstrous 316bhp and 265lb-ft of torque. Official stats tell us the G37 has a top speed of 155mph and that it'll go from 0-62 mph in 5.9 seconds (5.8 with the manual six-speed S). Oh, and it sounds fantastic.
However, once the novelty of the power and engine noise wears off, the G37's lustre starts to fade. In the corners, it feels grippy but you never feel totally connected to the road. It's just not as adept at dealing with the twisty bits as a BMW 3-Series.
There are three trims levels: the standard, the GT and the S. The S comes with four-wheel-steer and a limited slip differential that combine to give a much more 'pointy' feel on cornering.
All-wheel-drive versions of the G37 and G37 GT are also available and this system adjusts the power delivery: it can put anything from 50% of the drive through to the front wheels and up to 100% though to the rears depending on the conditions.
The G37 is very easy to drive and steering is well weighted but it does lack feel. The braking system is fantastic: the power-assisted four-wheel vented disc brakes have a four-channel, four-sensor anti-lock braking system as well as electronic brake force distribution and Brake Assist. All this wizardry means the car can be brought to a halt with the minimum of fuss.
