Hyundai i800 Review

Overview3 out of 5

Big families have big needs but, thankfully, there's plenty of choice to cater for them. Your bog-standard 2.4-child family has few worries, but even the five-kid set-up can use a raft of slick MPVs and even the odd 4x4 as a suitable mode of transport.

If you fecundity knows little boundaries and you are fortunate/mad enough to have a six little darlings then your automotive options deplete as fast as your supply of nappies.

Only one conventional MPV - the ageing Citroen C8 - offers the right number of seats, but nowhere near enough luggage space for eight.

If you go down the 'minibus' route you've got Volkswagen's Caravelle and Mercedes-Benz' Viano as options but you'll need at least £30,000.

So what to do? Well, there's the Peugeot Expert Tepee (£21,371) and this, the new Hyundai i800.

With prices starting at just £18,495 for a 128bhp 2.5-litre diesel and £19,495 for the more powerful 168bhp version, the Hyundai is significantly cheaper than the Peugeot and almost £10,000 less than your 'premium' minibuses.

But is it any good? Read onto find out if the i800 is the large family's automotive saviour or a huge disappointment.
