Hyundai i20 (2009-) Review

Category: Superminis 3 out of 5

Summary of the Hyundai i20 (2009-)

Price Range: £9,150 to £12,800

Assets

Cheap to buy and run, well-equipped, neat styling.

Drawbacks

Noisy diesel engine, cheap-feeling dash, iffy ride.

Verdict

Not as good to drive as a Fiesta, but impossible to rule out i20's superior value.

Hyundai i20 Review

Running Costs4 out of 5

Best for running costs is the 74bhp 1.4-litre diesel. It is gruff, but in the i20 it helps the Hyundai average a stunning 64.2mpg while emitting just 116g/km of carbon dioxide. That means it easily slots into VED Band B, while company users pay 13% benefit-in-kind.

The petrol range is less impressive, chiefly because the 1.2-litre doesn't slip into the VED Band B with its emissions of 124g/km. In any case, the 54.3mpg official fuel consumption figure isn't bad.

The most powerful 99bhp 1.4, meanwhile, averages 50.4mpg while polluting just 133g/km of CO2.
