Hyundai i20 (2009-) Review

Category: Superminis 3 out of 5

Summary of the Hyundai i20 (2009-)

Price Range: £9,150 to £12,800

Assets

Cheap to buy and run, well-equipped, neat styling.

Drawbacks

Noisy diesel engine, cheap-feeling dash, iffy ride.

Verdict

Not as good to drive as a Fiesta, but impossible to rule out i20's superior value.

Hyundai i20 Review

Reliability and Quality2 out of 5

As a brand, Hyundai has plenty of work to do if you believe the results of the most recent JD Power survey where it finished in a dismal 17th place behind Land Rover.

The Getz (the car the i20 replaces) finished mid-table in 55th out of 100 - a very mediocre result. Reliability wasn't an issue, it was the poor interior quality and exterior styling that irked owners - both of which have been addressed with the neater styling and improved cabin quality.

That said, the all-new i20 still disappoints once your fingers actually begin poking and probing the new dash. Even with our car's range-topping metal effect centre console it feels cheap and definitely not cheerful.
