Category: Superminis 3 out of 5

Summary of the Hyundai i20 (2009-)

Price Range: £8,550 to £12,200

Assets

Cheap to buy and run, well-equipped, neat styling.

Drawbacks

Noisy diesel engine, cheap-feeling dash, iffy ride.

Verdict

Not as good to drive as a Fiesta, but impossible to rule out i20's superior value.

Hyundai i20 Review

Overview3 out of 5

Despite its puny dimensions, this is the big one for Hyundai in Britain. Replacing the ageing Getz, the new i20 is expected to become Britain's best-selling Hyundai.

It better be good - and it should be - since like the i30, the i20 has been designed and developed in Europe. It's a brave move by Hyundai, which could have taken the cheaper option of modifying an existing Korean model.

This should mean the i20 meet the demands of a European market that wants stylish, high quality cars that are good to drive.

Thankfully, Hyundai has carried on its long tradition of generously equipping its cars and pricing them low. The range kicks off at £8,195 and even the base models come with air conditioning. Difficult to argue with value like that, but would we prefer one over a Fiesta? Read on to find out.
