Has the looks and the handling
Doesn't have the interior quality, the great engine or a low enough price
The hand of Lotus makes Satria GTi a great Proton, but only a good hot hatch

Peugeot's 206 GTi is not only cheaper and better equipped than the Satria GTi, it's also two insurance groups lower, but the Proton shouldn't be too expensive to run, with reasonable servicing costs. Depreciation is not a Proton strong point, however, and despite its exclusivity, the Satria GTi could fare worse than some rivals. If you can find a used GTi (they'll probably be quite rare) then it should make a reasonable purchase. It may have been thrashed, so watch out, but Protons are generally pretty reliable. Concerns about the quality of the interior trim mean that a used Satria GTi might look a bit tatty. With group 16 insurance, a higher purchase price than the Peugeot 206 GTi and the likelihood of heavy depreciation, the Satria GTi doesn't represent particularly great value.
