The insurance groups are low, the modest CO2 emissions keep tax bills down, and the official figures show a minimal fuel thirst - and because it's not a car you're likely to thrash, there's a good chance you'll get close to those figures in the real world. The 1.4 manual manages 48.7mpg and 137g/km of CO2, while the CVT returns figures of 47.9mpg and 129g/km. The 1.2 does 51.4mpg and 129 g/km.

Servicing is every 12,500 miles or 12 months. Having a cam chain instead of a belt will reduce maintenance costs, but there are twice as many spark plugs as usual to change.
