Crowd pleaser

It might be a compact "lifestyle" 4x4, but the Honda CR-V has all the on and off-road ability most buyers will ever need. This first-generation model predated the Land Rover Freelander, and had more conventional styling, but was just as clever. How so? Its two-wheel-drive system automatically slipped into four-wheel drive when the electronics detected a lack of grip. A great all-rounder.
