Excellent engines, economy, fun handling, low running costs, reliability, spaciousness.
Firm ride, engine noise, plain-looking 5dr, somewhat bland interior.
One of the most sensible cars if you're seeking practicality and efficiency. Not the most comfortable though, nor the most fun.

Fuel economy from all engines is very good indeed, with the likes of the 1.4 and 1.6 achieving 42 and 41 mpg respectively. The diesel's good for 56 mpg, which is better than many superminis, yet alone family cars. Combine with low insurance groups (the 1.4's a mere Group 4), low depreciation and reasonable servicing rates, and overall costs are about as low as any car in this class.
For second-hand buyers, they're good news too. Honda reliability ensures they're built for the long-run, while the fact that a large percentage of Civics are brought by easy-going private drivers means few will have been thrashed (the Type-R is, of course, a different story).
