Civics are an easy drive and combine low fuel consumption with peppy performance. They hold their value well, and enjoy outstanding reliability.
Dull looks, average crash protection and the three door's firm ride are off-putting.
A tempting and sound buy that is no trouble to own.

The Civic holds its value well, particularly the three door, and delivers exceptional fuel consumption. Servicing costs are average, but insurance premiums are higher than the norm. Not the most exciting car to look at, but the Civic has one of the strongest resale values of any Honda, so they're not particularly cheap to buy secondhand. There is steady demand for every model in the range; a strong metallic colour will speed along a sale. Honda dealers are keen now to get old-shape cars off their forecourts, so aren't as high-priced as they used to be, but the cheapest cars will be in the private classified ads. Watch out for badly-modified, thrashed and tarted-up three-doors, but apart from those, the Civic is a very easy car to buy second-hand, as it's so well-built and reliable. All Civics get driver and passenger airbags, electric front windows, remote locking and sunroofs. Many have anti-lock brakes too.
