Civics are an easy drive and combine low fuel consumption with peppy performance. They hold their value well, and enjoy outstanding reliability.

Drawbacks

Dull looks, average crash protection and the three door's firm ride are off-putting.

Verdict

A tempting and sound buy that is no trouble to own.

The Civic is pretty easy to break into, and no more than averagely difficult to steal. The five door's safety performance in the NCAP crash tests was average - the three door is unlikely to be any better.
