GoinGreen G-Wiz (2006-) Review

Category: City Cars 1.5 out of 5

Summary of the GoinGreen G-Wiz (2006-)

Price Range: No data available

Assets

Zero-emission motoring, free parking in most of London, road tax and congestion charge exempt.

Drawbacks

Anaemic performance, poor-quality fit and finish, instability at speed, limited range.

Verdict

If you can live with the poorly built interior and the snail's-pace performance, then the G-Wiz is a very green alternative to a normal car. However, a pushbike and an Oyster card would be our recommendation.

Running Costs4 out of 5

This is the G-Wiz's saving grace: with an overnight charge putting you back a paltry 30p or so, it costs around a penny a mile to run the G-Wiz. Factor in the free road tax, low or zero-cost parking in most of London (even on normally horrifically expensive meters) and the exemption from the Congestion Charge, and things look even rosier.

However, you must bear in mind that you need to have off-street parking so you can plug the G-Wiz in overnight, because you're not allowed to run an extension lead across the pavement for fear of people tripping over it. The purchase price of a basic G-Wiz is around £8225, which is a little steep considering how impractical and badly built the G-Wiz is.
