Ford Mondeo Econetic (2008-) Review

Category: Large Family 3 out of 5

Summary of the Ford Mondeo Econetic (2008-)

Price Range: £18,045 to £29,245

Assets

Fine handling, spacious, good quality cabin.

Drawbacks

Longer gearing stunts performance, poor throttle response and inflexible noisy engine frustrates.

Verdict

Econetic is the weakest link in the excellent Mondeo range.

Ford Mondeo Estate Review

Comfort and Equipment4 out of 5

The Mondeo Econetic remains a big, comfortable car but the ride has been compromised by the addition of the sports suspension and stiffer-walled energy saving tyres. The stiffer set-up is a crucial because it lowers the ride height for better fuel-saving aerodynamics and although it's not quite as comfortable as the standard car, the Econetic is still just compliant enough to soak up nasty intrusions.

There's plenty of kit because it is based on the Zetec trim although it runs on steel wheels rather than alloys. Bluetooth, aircon, a multi-function steering wheel, trip computer and cruise control are all standard fit.
