Ford claims that customers of the old Ka were among its most satisfied owners. This either implies it was particularly reliable, or Ka owners have low standards.
The Fiat Panda, the car the 500 is based on, won praise by drivers for its strong and durable mechanicals. The Ka, developed alongside the 500, should therefore prove reliable enough.
As far as quality goes, Ford has been restricted by the 500's dashboard architecture. Plastics aren't quite as impressive as in the new Fiesta, but on the cheaper models it's perfectly adequate.
