Roomy, comfortable, easy to drive, unpretentious image, good value for money, cheap to run.
A bit dull-looking, some doubts about quality, stingy basic equipment levels.
The Galaxy's a people-carrier that lives up to its label, but there are more inspiring and stylish propositions out there - not least Ford's own closely-related S-MAX.

The Galaxy - as did the S-MAX - received a full five-star rating in the EuroNCAP crash tests.
Its all-new design brings a stronger body structure and more advanced crumple-zone technology. Front, side and third-row curtain airbags are standard-fit, along with the new driver's knee-protecting airbag; and there is a new design for the side window airbags. Deactivation of the passenger seat airbag is optional for those who want to use a child seat in the front, although we'd recommend that kids are safer in the back.
Isofix child seat mounting points are also available, as are a range of Isofix-compatible seats and booster cushions.
Active head restraints protect against whiplash injury in rear-enders and the front seatbelts have pre-tensioners and load limiters; all of the seven seats have proper three-point belts.
Further options include stability control, a recommended feature to reduce the risk of a rollover incident, and tyre pressure sensors. Zetec and Ghia models have an alarm, which is optional for the LX.
