Ford Focus (1998-2005) Review

Category: Small Family 4 out of 5

Summary of the Ford Focus (1998-2005)

Price Range: £12,795 to £21,445

Assets

Pleasant to drive, good cabin layout and ergonomics, wide range of engines and body styles, excellent common-rail turbodiesel, high levels of refinement and quality.

Drawbacks

Non-common-rail diesel a bit loud, ride could be a smidgeon more compliant ... not much else.

Verdict

Still one of the very best cars in the class.

Ford Focus Review

Reliability and Quality3 out of 5

Quite startling when it was launched, the Focus's sharply designed interior has become slightly more familiar over recent years, but the plastics it employs aren't up to the perceived quality of those you'd find in, say, a Volkswagen Golf. Look beyond that, however, and the Focus's underlying quality is good. It attains above average scores in customer reliability and satisfaction surveys, and Fords are traditionally quite durable. The sheer number of them on the roads should also be rather reassuring.
