Fiat Multipla (2000-) Review

Category: Compact MPV 4 out of 5

Summary of the Fiat Multipla (2000-)

Price Range: £14,555 to £18,335

Assets

Innovative six-seat layout, value, good 1.9-litre diesel, fun and easy to drive.

Drawbacks

Small boot, relatively weak 1.6-litre petrol unit, not quite as smooth as the best.

Verdict

You don't have to be daring anymore to buy one of these pleasing, good-value compact MPVs.

Fiat Multipla Review

Reliability and Quality3.5 out of 5

Generally much better-built than Fiats of old, there are nevertheless still a few flimsy fittings inside the Multipla, while finish isn't up to German or Japanese standards either. The use of hard plastics is minimised on the dash and door trim, which is a relief considering the Multipla's width, and Fiat's wisely kept the interior colours neutral and sprinkled a few soft-touch materials around the cabin, particularly on Eleganza models. The Multipla's perceived quality has been given a boost, too, with even the lowly Dynamic models getting body-coloured bumpers and a CD player.

Although again better than older Fiats (not exactly hard), the Multipla's reliability is still not up to the standards of the best. Clever 'spaceframe' construction does at least mean it feels solid, though.
