Over 60mpg; Band B tax; quick off the mark; Bravo's attractive styling and five-star NCAP score.
Dead-feeling steering; poor low-speed ride; uninspiring handling.
Not sporty, but a nice-looking car that's cheap to run.

The ride's not great, especially with the Dynamic's 16" alloys; it doesn't cope well with rutted roads and potholes at low speeds, and it is prone to tyre noise. The diesel engine's noisy, too - though better than the older 1.9 - at tickover. It's not an impressively refined all-round package, though the soft, well-shaped seats and attractively-styled dashboard go a long way to compensate. The cabin is roomy and the boot usefully large.
The Active equipment level is generous: this gives air conditioning, remote central locking with deadlocks, electric front windows and door mirrors, foglights and a radio/CD player. Dynamic versions add electric rear windows, a leather steering wheel, Bluetooth phone kit, MP3 inputs, dual-zone climate control, a front armrest, velour seat trim and 16" alloy wheels.
