Chevrolet Corvette (2005-) Review

Category: Exotic Sports 4 out of 5

Summary of the Chevrolet Corvette (2005-)

Price Range: No data available

Assets

Performance from roaring V8. Handles pretty well too. Should be well equipped and good value

Drawbacks

Doesn't feel as well built as a 911. Left-hand-drive only. Manual gearbox industrial, auto 'box poor. Interior quality not up to European standards.

Verdict

A proper sports car with a lot of character. Practical enough for daily use.

Review

Safety and Security4 out of 5

Crash avoidance is good thanks to huge grip and a terrific electronic stability system. There are xenon lights and good wipers and visibility is largely good for a supercar, but being left-hand drive will obviously have ramifications in the UK. Rear offside vision may prove particularly problematic.

Crash safety is good - the car meets stringent American standards, and has strong rollover protection. Front and side airbags are standard.

A standard feature is keyless entry and starting: as with certain Mercs and the Nissan Micra, you keep the key fob in your pocket. The car recognises the fob's proximity and unlocks itself, and allows you to start it on a button. Walking away causes it to self-lock and arm its alarm. But you have to touch a button on the fob to get it to deadlock. In the US a luggage cover blind for the coupé (actually a hatchback) is optional, but it's standard for us nosey Europeans.
