Value for money, straight-line speed, great-sounding engine.
Cheap-looking standard interior, still lacking in steering feel.
A worthy inheritor of the 'Vette mantle.

The Corvette is a true automotive icon.
Now in its sixth incarnation, it's a car that makes muscle car aficionados weak at the knees, but can leave fans of more sophisticated European sports cars cold.
But Corvette has, in recent years, made a concerted effort to encourage Europeans into its V8-powered beast, tempting us with its value-for-money proposition and high thrills quotient. In the UK, there's still the sticking point of only being available in left-hand-drive, plus the limited number of distribution outlets (distribution was previously handled by the Dutch-based Kroymans Corporation), but the brand has now been taken back under the wing of General Motors in the UK, so Brits with a penchant for Americana should find it easier to come by in this latest incarnation.
This C6 has been around since 2004, so the company has made a few changes to refresh it for 2008. First off is a larger, more powerful 6.2-litre small-block V8 engine that pumps out 431bhp and generates 432lb-ft of torque. This helps the car from a standing start to 62mph in 4.4 seconds (4.6 with the paddle-shift auto 'box).
Also upgraded is the steering, which has a revised rack and pinion system intended to improve feel.
Inside, the usual cheap-looking interior found in most US cars is in evidence in the standard specification, unless you spend a little extra adding real leather, which brings it up closer to the standards we expect from our supercars.
The Corvette C6 is available now in Coupe or Convertible forms starting at £45,995.
