Fast, beautifully made, easy to drive.
Lacks ultra-fine edge of driver appeal for some; dowdy, dated interior.
One of the less-acknowledged greats and a future classic.

Honda's flagship supercar now goes back a decade but still sets the standard as the most unintimidating car of its type. Sleek, purposeful styling, a great rear-wheel drive chassis and a fantastic V6 engine are appealing, but it lacks the snob value of its European rivals. This is a little unfair, as Honda has plenty of motorsport heritage too, and the development of this car was aided by the input of the late, great Ayrton Senna. Revised in 2002, the latest NSX Coupe and NSX-T targa-topped models come in a wider choice of colours, and Coupe versions now have body-coloured roofs. The F-Matic automatic transmission with steering wheel-mounted paddleshifts remains an expensive option. There are two engine choices, the 3179cc V6, which develops 276bhp in the (six-speed) manual models and the 3.0 V6, producing 256bhp in the F-Matic versions. Japanese buyers also enjoy a stripped-out lightweight version, the NSX-R, which isn't officially imported to the UK (see separate story for more on this model).
