Aston Martin Vanquish (2001-) Review

Category: Exotic Sports 4 out of 5

Summary of the Aston Martin Vanquish (2001-)

Price Range: No data available

Assets

Stunning looks, beautiful cabin, exceptional performance, ease of driving.

Drawbacks

Size, weight, cramped interior, questionmarks over sequential transmission.

Verdict

A traffic-stopping supercar with impressive handling, but its size and weight count against it as a real back-road performer.

Review

Reliability and Quality4 out of 5

Like most handbuilt, low-volume cars, older-generation Astons were often unreliable. The Vanquish, however, seems much more thoroughly engineered. It certainly feels immensely well made and the body and interior construction on Vanquish chassis number one were exemplary. However, since it is a very sophisticated machine using few mass-manufactured parts, it is unlikely ever to match the glitch-free status of a Lexus. A number of the early press-launch prototypes suffered from burning clutches and, in one case, a self-destructing clutch plate. Aston's official explanation was misuse in some cases and tolerance problems in others which have now been cured.
