Aston Martin Vanquish (2001-) Review

Category: Exotic Sports 4 out of 5

Summary of the Aston Martin Vanquish (2001-)

Price Range: No data available

Assets

Stunning looks, beautiful cabin, exceptional performance, ease of driving.

Drawbacks

Size, weight, cramped interior, questionmarks over sequential transmission.

Verdict

A traffic-stopping supercar with impressive handling, but its size and weight count against it as a real back-road performer.

The ideas factory

Unlike the contemporary DB7, which was partly based on the Jaguar XJ-S, the Vanquish was an all-new car, packed with new materials and technology, and a huge advance on the archaic Virage/V8 series it replaced. It was also the last of the Aston Martins built at Newport Pagnell.

With a 460bhp 6.0-litre V12, the standard Vanquish is still one of the more powerful production cars in the world: it is capable of over 190mph, and can accelerate 0-60mph in under 4.5 seconds. The 520bhp Vanquish S (see separate story) joined the range in 2004 is good for 200mph.
