Bold styling inside and out. Fast and sporty to drive. Good value.
Chassis lacks the absolute poise, polish and refinement of the best in this class.
A likeable, credible alternative to the usual executive herd.

If you are after a super-relaxing drive then the 166 probably isn't for you: the steering tugs and the ride is fussy on anything other than a smooth road. The two-way adjustable steering column and powered seats (on the V6 models) mean you can tailor a driving position that is not excessively Italianate (long arms, short legs) and you get air-con across the range, plus cruise control on the 3.0-litre. The 166 is as well packaged as its executive contemporaries and has more headroom than the rakish shape suggests. Oddments space is a little mean and the deep, well-shaped boot is not supplemented by split/folding rear seats. The unique-fit stereo is beautifully incorporated into what must be the most imaginative and classy dashboard in the class. The RDS-equipped radio/cassette is standard, but the CD - a multi-disc affair - is an option.
