Review

Overview4 out of 5

The V70 is synonymous with all things Volvo and continues a theme that first appeared with the Duett in 1953, followed by the Amazon, 740/760, 940/960 and 850. All brought Volvo's core strengths of safety, quality and integrity to a wide audience looking for a practical family load-lugger.

For 2007, the Volvo V70 has been reengineered from the ground up and is now developed from the platform of the Volvo S80 large executive car instead of the previous S60.

Although less boxy than previous versions, the new V70 is actually more practical than ever before, with a load space enhanced by 60 litres, making it capable of carrying a washing machine in all of its packaging in the boot without the seats being folded away.

Three petrol and two diesel engines are available at the launch of the V70 in September 2007, including two six-cylinder petrols - one a high performance T6 turbo model. Four-cylinder engines will join the line-up late 2007. No R version will be offered this time around.

An XC70 version with four-wheel drive, raised ride height and body cladding is also available.
