Dodge Caliber Review

Safety and Security2.5 out of 5

Safety kit is off the pace for the class, especially compared with contenders such as the five-star Golf. Side curtain airbags are standard fit only on higher trim SXT Calibers and an electronic stability programme is only offered on diesel models, although this will become optional on higher-spec petrol models later on. Likewise, a tyre pressure monitor is standard on higher spec cars. Cars equipped with ESP also gain Brake Assist, which applies maximum braking power in a panic stop via sensors that detect sudden braking.

Following extensive crash testing, Euro NCAP has awarded the Caliber a four-star rating for adult occupant safety, highlighting a potential risk of a leg injury in its testing. Three stars were awarded for child protection and two stars (out of a possible four) were given for pedestrian safety.

On the security front, the Caliber is equipped with a Thatcham 1 alarm and immobiliser.
