Build not as good as rivals, entry-level petrol too slow
If you're a bit bored with Ford Focus default choice, check this out. Just don't expect it to be as good to drive.

Compared to European and Japanese rivals, American cars don't have a great reputation when it comes to quality of fit and finish. And given the Caliber is up against the UK's top seller, the Ford Focus, quality will be an issue. The cars we drove were reasonably well screwed together, although some external panel gaps weren't consistent. In the cabin, there were a few roughly finished plastic edges, for instance, around the tailgate hatch lock. As for reliability, there's little to base any judgment on as it's an all-new platform, but with proven engines, it should be mechanically durable. Also, we can report that the cars we drove didn't rattle over some quite rough roads.
