It may have head-turning looks and a bit of attitude, but there's nothing expensive about the Materia. The purchase price is reasonable, it's economical and it won't be costly to tax and insure.
The manual returns 39.7mpg on the combined cycle, while the automatic is slightly worse, averaging 37.7mpg. The situation is the same when it comes to carbon dioxide emissions: 169g/km from the manual, 176g/km from the automatic.
Like the Sirion and Copen MkII, the Materia is fitted with what Daihatsu calls an intelligent catalyst, using particles with a self-regenerating quality, resulting in a longer useful life for the cat, thus reducing maintenance costs.
