Crowd pleaser

It's looks and performance that count in this class, and there are cars far cheaper that go more quickly than these from Aston Martin. They're just too heavy to be called sports cars, and too old to be leaders in refinement or ease of driving. But that's also their appeal: they are large, heavy, hand-built, unique and, most important, classically British.

Hand-tailored to buyer request, many of these came in interesting bespoke paint/trim/equipment specifications - some outlandish. And while outright boy-racer behaviour would be vulgar, the basic V8 coupé (basic is a relative term) and Virage convertible are fast enough. The Vantage, however, accelerates in a way only astronauts would understand.
