Alfa Romeo Spider (1996-2003) Review

Category: Convertibles 2.5 out of 5

Summary of the Alfa Romeo Spider (1996-2003)

Price Range: No data available

Assets

Beautiful styling, sophisticated manners and tuneful engines.

Drawbacks

Looks and feels dated now. Suffers from scuttle shake on bumpy roads, small boot, chassis struggles to deliver V6 grunt.

Verdict

Bigger and less aggressive than some rival roadsters but still desirable.

Review

Comfort and Equipment3.5 out of 5

Although you sit a little low, the Spider's driving position is comfortable. The steering wheel is adjustable for reach and rake. The Spider takes bumpy roads in its stride although scuttle shake - in the form of a quivering dashboard - is annoying and unusual on a modern car. Air conditioning was standard in later cars. The Spider is a spacious but strict two seater. The sophisticated rear suspension system eats into the boot space so you'll have to pack carefully. There is some extra space behind the seats for slim items. The Spider comes with a built-in radio cassette mounted low in the centre console. The speakers are only average and there is no CD facility. The controls are fiddly to use.
