Alfa Romeo Spider (1996-2003) Review

Category: Convertibles 2.5 out of 5

Summary of the Alfa Romeo Spider (1996-2003)

Price Range: No data available

Assets

Beautiful styling, sophisticated manners and tuneful engines.

Drawbacks

Looks and feels dated now. Suffers from scuttle shake on bumpy roads, small boot, chassis struggles to deliver V6 grunt.

Verdict

Bigger and less aggressive than some rival roadsters but still desirable.

Review

Overview2.5 out of 5

The 1996-2003 Spider felt dated even in its time, but no-one could deny that it still looks stylish. Compromised by the removal of its roof, it's not as sharp to drive as the GTV coupe, but it's still great fun. The 2.0-litre Twin-Spark engine offers the best all-round ability, but even though the chassis struggles to contain the power of the 3.0-litre V6, its fantastic engine note is a desirable accompaniment to any top-down summer drive.
