Reasonable all-rounder that should be good value for money

Thanks to better crash resistance and anti-theft measures, Suzuki is expecting a lower insurance rating - its estimate is a lowly 2 to 3. It claims a combined fuel consumption figure of 46mpg - good for the class - but the 1.3-litre engine doesn't qualify for reduced road tax. Depreciation isn't likely to be too bad, so overall the Wagon R+ promises to protect your wallet rather than empty it. If Suzuki can keep the price of the basic GL under £7000, the Wagon R+ will be good value for money. But only if you particularly want the roomy, near-MPV body, as equally-priced conventional competitors offer far better dynamics.
