Standard power steering makes for an easy drive and the upright seating position gives a good view ahead. The clutch is light, but the gearchange could be smoother and driveline shunt makes for jerky around-town progress. There's also a disconcerting blind spot around the front pillars. Not a Wagon R+ plus-point. The drive is workmanlike and effective, not fun. But at least body roll isn't excessive - and the steering is well weighted, too.
Throaty 75bhp 16-valve 1.3-litre engine hauls the Wagon R+ with surprising verve. It's nippy around town and tackles motorways - even long uphill hauls - enthusiastically.
