Excellent drive, good choice of engines
Little to distinguish between it and Altea, only good for four
The Toledo doesn't mark itself out from the excellent Altea MPV enough, which could confuse potential buyers.

As the Toledo is aimed at family buyers rather than the fleet car market, fuel consumption is more of an issue. Unsurprisingly, the most efficient engines are the two diesels, with the 1.9 TDI returning 52.3mpg on the combined cycled and the 2.0 TDI 48.7mpg (47.1 with the DSG gearbox). The smaller 1.6-litre petrol gets 37.2mpg and the 2.0FSI direct injection 34.5mpg (31.7 with the six-speed auto). CO2 emissions across the range are on the high side with the 1.6-litre petrol producing 182g/km and the 2.0-litre petrol 196g/km (or 214g/km with the auto gearbox) resulting in tax rates between £145 and £160 a year. The diesels weigh in better with 146g/km produced by the 1.9TDI and 157g/km by the 2.0TDI (162 with the DSG 'box) meaning tax bills of £115 or £135 respectively.
The smaller Altea MPV is expected to retain 50 percent of its value after three years which is very good for its segment, and the Toledo should hold similar value. With little price difference from new we expect the Toledo to cost about the same as the Altea, or perhaps even less, once it reaches the secondhand forecourts. Used buyers who are looking for something with a big boot may find the Toledo surprisingly affordable for its size.
