Cheap, and getting cheaper, HDI diesels, well-equipped.
Slightly unrefined chassis, getting dated now, C4 Picasso's not that much dearer.
It's comfortable, it's spacious, it's practical and it's cheap.

The Picasso scored four stars in the Euro NCAP crash tests; respectable, but not on a par with the new Scenic's top five star result. It comes with ISOFIX child seat attachments, a rear centre three-point seat belt, rear child locks with dashboard indicator and standard ABS anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD). The passenger airbag can be switched off if a child seat is fitted, and a warning can be activated if a certain speed limit is exceeded. An immobiliser is standard-fit, along with an automatic locking function, but no deadlocks. The underfloor storage is a great idea, but those cubby holes really should have locks.
